Might seem like an odd question, but what is the connection between ice and business strategy?

Most would agree that success without a strategy is just luck, so having a solid business strategy is key. Yet often business strategy is limited by what is perceived to be possible.

And what lies on the other side of possible?

Its uncertainty and doubt…ultimately, it’s fear of the unknown that limits possibilities and hence business strategy

So what about the ice?

Most people fear cold water, and the thought of spending even a few minutes in an ice bath is a terrible and dangerous idea.

Yet, when business leaders embrace their fear of the ice and spend a few minutes in near freezing water, they quickly realize the resistance and apprehension was an illusion. It melts away. Many actually find bliss in the experience. Limiting beliefs are exposed for what they are…beliefs and not truths…and beliefs can be changed.

They emerge from the ice with renewed energy and drive. The boundary of what is possible has been dramatically shifted. This ends up having a spillover effect on strategic thinking. When the limits of possibility are questioned, the realm of opportunity grows…The success pie gets bigger.

In essence the ice bath is a mirror that quickly shows you how fear, doubt and uncertainly affect your strategic thinking and judgement. The ice melts away perceived limitations making better and more ambitious strategy possible.

Put your strategy in ice…you will be surprised at the possibilities that emerge.
